Dead White Poet brings the reader poems about one (still alive) white dude's experience and perspective, but that's just one part of it. It's really about what it is to be human today. It's about how people meet or not, how they connect or not, how they cope with the travails of daily life or not and how they find meaning in their lives. Or not.
Dead White Poet tells of love, romance, flirtation, fear and rejection. Sometimes it tells of the commonplace things in our lives and their depth and meaning to us. Sometimes it tells of eating ice cream and being bored in class.
