The experience and camaraderie of being a college athlete is uniquely portrayed. Cat, Marisol, and Brooke are freshmen who face the challenge of the game as well as their teammates. Discord begins with a new coach intent on change, weakening the team's spirit... But, the team regains its strength through the leadership of Kate, Taylor, and Andi; the captains. The things that they do in order to keep the team together are dramatic and often humorous.
The Spottswood Stars are tested. The pulled hamstrings, bruises, and the stress of academic pursuits are only part of the distractions. Each distraction, each setback, exposes the strength of these young women. The travel, the daily life, showcases their humor and growth. The Stars run the gamut of emotions as they defend and promote the ancient Native American sport of lacrosse. In the end, the new players rise up to the captains' challenge. The journey culminates in the prospect of a heroic ending. In a crucible of conflict, the “Little Sisters of War” are created.

…When I say this book is a true gem, I don't use that term lightly. Mr. Tate is not only a skillful writer, but he knows how to hook readers fast and hold their interest. At the beginning, the musings of an ancient Iroquois clan mother introduced me to the Native American game of lacrosse. Now, what I know about lacrosse could dance on the head of a pin…. But I found myself very quickly drawn into this story despite my ignorance of the game. --Laurel A. Johnson Reviewer/Midwest Book Review: midwestbookreview.com

About the Author
Harvey writes in order to answer the frequent question; "What are you doing now?" He makes no claim as an author. Harvey simply writes because he loves to read, and loves to search for the perfect, or the exact word. He views words as precision pieces in a universal puzzle, with an infinite image. His writing influences are: Loren Eiseley, Ray Bradbury, and early comic books. He still reads and rereads: Fighting the Flying Circus, Killer Angels, The Immense Journey, and Zen Flesh Zen Bones.
Little Sisters of War is a first novel, a labor of love for the women in Harvey's life, women that supported him as only women know how. His second novel, Voice from the River - Monongahela, was e-published and was the sites' best selling book during the year 2002. As an educator, Harvey never passes up the opportunity to hand out some advice: The strength of mind to speak the truth is a heady brew on your tongue, but once you have tasted it, you will always seek it. Courage is the easiest path through life.
