Quicksand
Len Harris

Quicksand
Cover art by D. Lee
ISBN 1-59201-015-6
80500words, 322 ppbk pages

Sam Kantor is a far stretch from Chandler and Hammett's concept of the private eye. He is more likely to solve his cases by accident rather than design. But somehow he usually manages to come up with the solution.

Sam's latest case started off innocuously enough. It was a simple assignment, to accompany a client to deliver a package. But when Sam is knocked unconscious and his client turns up dead in his office, the trail becomes like a Matryoshka doll, each lead he uncovers reveals another within. Sam has to think on his feet to stay clear of the quicksand!

I enjoyed very much this twisty tale of a down-on-his luck private eye. I love the witty train of thought that weaves itself in and out of Sam's dialogue, which also leads the reader through the story. The plot is intriguing, and thickens with each passing page, progressing logically throughout.

I've enjoyed reading it every time that I've done it. I believe this style of writing has been missing for a while.

About Quicksand's Author

Born in London's East End and a few blocks from the historic Tower of London, Len Harris is proud to describe himself as a Cockney. At the outbreak of World War Two, he was one of the thousands of kids evacuated to the comparative safety of a village in the country. Bored with pastoral life, he quickly returned to London, landing his first job as a messenger boy for Reuters' News Agency.
