Satan at the Helm
Karl Heffelfinger

Satan at the Helm cover
Cover art by D. Lee
ISBN 1-59201-009-1
86400 words, 346 ppbk pages

For many during the 18th Century, life was a cruel hardship that bred cruel men. Ned Loe was one of them.

Keil Hermann, a ship's carpenter, is ripped from his home and his woman, Moira, to unwillingly serve aboard the pirate's ship.

This tale sails the high seas of separation, desperation and determination as the carpenter plots his escape from the brutal butchers that menace the Caribbean and Moira attempts to find her man... at any cost!

Mr. Heffelfinger shows a strong grasp of all things nautical and the vagaries of the sea. His descriptive powers are superb, whether detailing a near-drowning in a log flume, a bar fight, a sea battle, rape, torture, or an emergency amputation....
..Satan at the Helm is packed with action and with the agonizing uncertainty of sailing pirate-infested seas.

About the Author of Satan at the Helm

Karl W Heffelfinger is a published short-story author who began writing novels when he retired. His fondness for the Caribbean was engendered by his frequent cruises to that area with the U.S. Navy. He has returned to the islands several times since then. His curiosity about pirates was piqued during a trip to the North Carolina seacoast and his first book about corsairs, 10 December, a Novel of Piratical Adventure , was written soon after.
